Heidi kills it in Perth

Just about the time that questions such as ... wonder what happened to Killing Heidi? Wonder where they are now? Wonder if Jessie and Ella still have dreads? ... pop into your brain ... you happen to hear the buzz, the rumours, the possibility .. then, it's official ... The Reunion!!

Killing Heidi roared into Perth's Astor Theatre Friday night seeming to have never missed a beat and were so unlike a band that has been on a hiatus of sorts for ten years. The raucous crowd were full of enthusiasm and overwhelmed by the genuine electric energy from the stage.

The tone for the evening was set by by the delightful Elli Schoen. This young lady and band out of Fremantle surprised with a thoughtful, melodic performance replete with a powerhouse voice that belied her demure stature. Having a listen to her Gold Mess EP or catching a local performance would be well worth it.

Though I have heard Paper Doll and 12th of July, when Iluka took the stage, she could have easily been doing so after getting a hug from Janis Joplin and a hi-five from Jimmi Hendrix at Woodstock! Immediately images of a young Goldie Hawn, Stevie Nicks or Kate Hudson flashed into mind.

In an enchanting set with a retro pop/soul/folk and an extra bit of her own uniqueness, she moved seamlessly through her time on stage taking the audience on a musical journey that included songs from her latest EP Blue My Soul.

She will be making all stops with Killing Heidi so be sure to get venues in time to catch her set.

To close the evening, Killing Heidi took the stage as if they'd only been on a break between encores, not like they had been away for ten years. Celebrating their twentieth year, the band played songs from their early years with Ella becoming not just songstress but storyteller while leading into them.

The synchronicity between the siblings was evident as they powered through songs. Ella was as energetic as ever and Jessie now appearing as the Man/Dude in the black hat cranked out an amazing performance that was matched by the rest of their band mates. Even while "catching their breath", they did a few numbers from their time as The Verses and Ella Hooper acoustically.

The crowd cheerfully sung along to hits Mascara and Weir played back to back even with Ella throwing them a cheeky curve cue wise just to keep them on their feet. Once they left the stage, the audience clamoured for more so the guys obliged and blazed through Superman Supergirl and I Am to finish the night.

After rocking through Adelaide, the band will hit Sydney, Melbourne and the good old Tivoli in Brisbane so if you are in any of those locales, grab a ticket if you can by all means and prepare to be rocked because Killing Heidi is coming to bring you to life.
